Career and Technical Education (CTE) is a program of study to equip students with the skills and knowledge to prepare for a variety of careers. These programs are now offered to Stanley County Middle and High School students and can prepare them for post-secondary opportunities.
CTE Instructor, Mr. John Anders, and Student Advisor, Ms. Nichole Hahn, have been instrumental in the development of the new CTE program. Hahn applied for the grants that have made all the equipment and renovations possible. Mr. Anders is a veteran teacher who will utilize this equipment in his classes.
When Ms. Hahn applied for a $240,000 CTE grant, she faced a long wait to find out if Stanley County would receive it. In June, she learned the grant had been awarded, allowing work to begin over the summer to clear out the agriculture building. This made space for 6 welding booths and a variety of equipment for woodworking and metalworking. The initial grant specified how the funds could be spent on electrical, furnishings, and equipment. An initial investment was made in a CDL Simulator developed in partnership with area businesses and Lake Area Tech. This simulator provides students with hands-on training for a CDL learner permit and can also be used for lessons in other areas of driving including buses, ambulances, snowplows, and more.
The businesses that made this grant possible include several local supporters. AGE- wrote a letter of support for our welding program, while Morris Inc. wrote a letter of support for the CDL program. Additionally, Morris Inc. has donated welding materials for students to practice with and offered drivers to help students attain their driving hours.
