Stanley County has earned the Gladys Pyle Award for registering over 90% of age-eligible students to vote! SC Seniors could register to vote through the Secretary of State’s office, an opportunity initially presented during their government class.
South Dakota Secretary of State Monae L Johnson established the Gladys Pyle Award in 2023 to encourage high school students across the state to engage in the election process and register to vote. Schools that register at least 90% of their age-eligible students will receive this annual award.
Gladys Pyle was a trailblazing American educator and politician, recognized for being the first woman elected to the United States Senate and serving as South Dakota Secretary of State. Stanley County Middle-High School Principal Littau, Government teacher Ms. Bracelin, and Stanley County Auditor Philena Burtch proudly accepted the Gladys Pyle Award from Secretary of State Monae Johnson on Voter Registration Day, Tuesday, September 18, 2024.
