Veterans bolster SC wrestlers to dual win over Gettysburg
By:MIKE SMITH, Capital Journal Staff December 08, 2000
The return to the lineup of veterans Logan Hall and Matt Mitchell provided the spark in Stanley County's 45-26 win in a wrestling dual with Gettysburg at Parkview Gym Thursday.

Hall, a sophomore wrestling at 140 pounds, needed only 21 seconds to pin the Battlers' Trev Staman. Mitchell was nearly as fast in his season debut as he got the pin against Eugene Bryant in just 38 seconds in the 160-pound match.

'They came ready to wrestle and looked very good," said coach Craig Heller, whose team improves to 3-1 in duals.

Stanley County was wrestling at a man disadvantage as they had to leave two spots open due to wrestlers failing to make weight. When Mitchell entered the mat, the Buffs trailed 26-21 with four matches remaining.

The Buffs ended up finishing with four pins. The Johnson brothers, Andy and Gerad, ended their matches early at 171 and 189 pounds respectively to clinch the win.

Bryan Myers provided frosting on the victory when he laid out Chris Harr in the heavyweight battle that took only 25 seconds. Harr had beaten Myers less than a week before at the Stanley County Invitational.

"That was a good win for Bryan," said Heller.

Also picking up wins were Colton Carter at 103 pounds and Tyson Russell at 125 pounds.
The Buffs are back in action when they compete in the Gregory Invitational on Saturday. They will get another look at Bon Homme, the champions of the Stanley County Invitational as well as highly regarded teams from Miller, ranked No. 5 in the preseason coaches poll and Wagner, ranked No. 6.

Also competing is eastern power Dakota Valley, who feature defending state champions in Greg and Jake Cook. Elk Point-Jefferson is another contending team.
Luke Heller is seeded No. 1 at 130 pounds.
